The Shattered Skyvault

Welcome to The Shattered Skyvault

Long before the beanstalk was poisoned, the Skyvault was not a place of treasure, but of preservation. It did not hold gold or weapons, it held truth. The king, fearful of what unchecked lies could become, ordered the construction of a vault suspended between the clouds and the earth, a place where dangerous truths could be sealed away from the world. These were not simple secrets, but truths capable of reshaping reality itself if left unchecked.

For a time, the vault fulfilled its purpose. It remained silent, untouched, and absolute.

But when the beanstalk became corrupted, something deep within the Skyvault began to fracture. The boundary between truth and lie weakened. What was once contained began to leak, twisting into distorted memories, fractured illusions, and half-formed realities. Lies, once intangible, took shape and substance, moving through the vault as if they had always belonged there.

Now, the Skyvault no longer protects truth. It tests those who enter it.

It challenges perception, intention, and belief, forcing travelers to confront not only what is real, but what they are willing to accept as truth.

Gloomgil knows of this place, though he rarely speaks of it.

“Careful, traveler… not everything locked away was meant to be found…
Some truths bite harder than lies.”

LLD for The Shattered Skyvault

Level Overview

The Shattered Skyvault is a surreal, dark fantasy dungeon suspended between the clouds and the earth, where reality itself has begun to fracture. Once a sacred vault used to contain dangerous truths, the Skyvault has become corrupted following the poisoning of the beanstalk. What was meant to preserve order now distorts it.

The level blends floating stone structures and dense cloud formations, creating an environment that constantly shifts between solid and unstable. Players must navigate this unpredictable space while confronting illusions, hidden pathways, and enemies born from broken truths and lingering doubt.

At its core, the level revolves around the theme of truth versus perception. Players are tasked with recovering three Truth Fragments, each tied to mechanics that challenge how they interpret the world around them. Some paths only reveal themselves when ignored, while others deceive the player into making incorrect choices to progress.

Throughout the level, players encounter corrupted entities such as cloud goblins and the Hollow Sentinel, culminating in a final confrontation with The Warden of Unspoken Truths, a powerful being that embodies the instability of the Skyvault.

Visually, the level is defined by a stylized aesthetic featuring dark stone, glowing purple corruption, and bioluminescent blue elements, creating a contrast between beauty and unease. The atmosphere is both mysterious and tense, encouraging exploration while maintaining a constant sense of uncertainty.

The Shattered Skyvault is designed to challenge the player not only through combat, but through observation, timing, and trust in their own perception, leaving them questioning what is real long after they leave.

Gameplay

Gameplay in The Shattered Skyvault is centered around a mix of exploration, perception-based puzzles, and controlled combat encounters. The level challenges the player to think beyond traditional gameplay patterns by constantly questioning what is real and what is an illusion.

As the player progresses, they will navigate a semi-linear path through floating platforms made of clouds and vines. These surfaces behave differently, vines offer stability but often contains hazards, while cloud formations may appear safe but can phase in and out of existence. This forces the player to carefully observe their surroundings and adapt their movement.

A key gameplay mechanic introduced in this level is perception-based interaction. Certain platforms, pathways, and objects only appear or change when the player looks away, stands in shadow, or chooses what seems like the “wrong” option. These mechanics are reinforced through puzzles tied to collecting the three Truth Fragments, each requiring the player to interpret visual cues and environmental hints.

Combat encounters are designed to complement these mechanics rather than interrupt them. Enemies like cloud goblins use unpredictable movement and illusion-based attacks, keeping the player on edge. The mini boss, The Hollow Sentinel, introduces heavier, timing-based combat that emphasizes positioning and reaction. The final boss, The Warden of Unspoken Truths, combines all previously learned mechanics, including delayed attacks, illusion recognition, and environmental awareness.

Throughout the level, pacing alternates between slower, thoughtful puzzle-solving and bursts of intense combat, maintaining engagement while preventing fatigue.

Overall, gameplay is designed to feel unsettling, strategic, and immersive, encouraging players to rely on observation, patience, and adaptability rather than brute force alone.

Player Experence

The player experience in The Shattered Skyvault is designed to feel mysterious, unsettling, and mentally engaging, rather than purely action-driven. From the moment the player enters the level, they should feel a strong sense of curiosity mixed with unease, as the environment immediately signals that this is not a normal space.

As players move through the dungeon, they are constantly encouraged to question their surroundings. What appears safe may not be, and what seems wrong may actually be the correct path forward. This creates a subtle tension where players are never fully comfortable, but also never overwhelmed. Instead of relying solely on reflexes, the experience pushes players to slow down, observe, and think critically about their decisions.

The shifting environments and illusion-based mechanics are meant to create moments of surprise and discovery. Players may initially feel confused or uncertain, but as they begin to understand the logic of the level, that confusion turns into satisfaction. Each solved puzzle or discovered path reinforces a sense of mastery over the environment.

Combat encounters are designed to enhance this experience, not disrupt it. Enemies behave in unpredictable ways, keeping players alert and engaged. The mini boss and final boss encounters serve as emotional peaks, testing everything the player has learned while maintaining the level’s psychological tone.

By the end of the level, players should feel a strong sense of accomplishment, not just for overcoming difficulty, but for understanding the world itself. The goal is for the player to walk away feeling like they experienced something unique, something that challenged both their skill and their perception, leaving a lasting impression even after the level is complete.
